The GUI is a complete pain, especially in portions where Sherlock needs to be moved around with precision, as he requires several second to just turn around, even when trying to avoid guards, and the game world is filled with invisible walls. The fixed third-person perspective also often turns the game into pixel hunt. Besides that, the game also pointlessly makes the player manually select dialogue options, even though all need to be cycled through, and all are recording in the journal, so there's no need to ever revisit them.Meanwhile, the story does make for an entertaining enough whodunnit, which isn't dampened even by the dismal voice-acting. At the end of each chapter the game makes the player pick the right clues to yield the correct deduction, which is a neat feature, as it prompts the player to pay attention and use their noggin, instead of just clicking on everything and letting Sherlock do the reasoning. For most part, the deductions are sensible, too, though all the contrived puzzles people use to lock their saves and whathaveyou certainly push the limits of believability.. Sherlock Holmes: The Silver Earring was overall a very enjoyable puzzle adventure game. The game begins with the death of a wealthy businessman and leaves you to investigate the scene. The game will then take you to multiple connected locations as you attempts to piece together the murder and uncover the assassin and the motive for the murder. The game is set over 5 days of investigations and each day will have you visit a location and search it for clues and solve one or two puzzles with ranging difficulties (some puzzles were quite hard and confusing), at the end of each day you will summarise your findings in a quiz, which for me was probably the hardest part of the game. I found the story to be quite engaging and interesting overall with a good range of characters and locations and was well suited to a Sherlock story. Overall 'Sherlock Holmes: The Silver Earring' was a good solid adventure game which presented a well written story and some good puzzles, taking around 9 - 10 hours to complete and with a very conclusive ending I would highly recommend it for adventure game enthusiasts. 8.5/10. What could have been a really engaging story, with decent puzzles to keep the player engaged and provide a sense of participation/accomplishment, is unfortunately let down rather badly by poor game mechanics and puzzle choices. It is generally not possible to progress from an area until you have discovered every single clue there is, which is fair, but in that case those clues should be easier to find (with the difficulty resting on the subsequent puzzles and deductions). What this game does is leave the player furiously scrabbling for walkthroughs, or in my case, several walkthroughs, to find the answers to puzzles that are not just hard, but outright nonsensical. In one case, every walkthrough I have found simply gave up and brute-forced the answer through repeat tries.Unfortunately this all culminated in a stealth scene that, if failed, fails the entire game (which is a bit steep for a game without autosaves, didn't I mention? SAVE OFTEN!). Maybe it was the conversion to newer systems with expanded graphics, but character movements glitch through, over and behind objects, and this seems to have disrupted the mechanics of that scene, making it impossible to succeed, even when following walkthroughs to the letter. As such, the game was unplayable beyond that point, which I am told is about halfway through. So unless you see indications that these problems have been fixed, save yourself the expense... and the pain of an endlessly looping soundtrack as Holmes combs every square inch of every level with his magnifying glass, seeking THAT one final clue.Elementary, my dear Watson. Don't buy it!. The game doesn't look that bad for a point-and-click adventure. The movies were also nice especially since that meant I didn't have to curse over the useless GUI. The voice acting and music is quite enjoyable throughout the whole game. Unfortunately, there is no real sense of progress as you make it through the investigations. One of the puzzles is plain ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with no obvious reasoning, even in walkthroughs. Movement is extremely clunky which is a pain when you need to sneak or solve a timed puzzle. The set of final questions - which are optional - were just guesswork due to the extreme lack of coherency throughout the rest of the game. There is just too little coherency for this game to work as entertainment.. Sherlock holmes the sliver earring is just another game for point and click fans if youre not just pick it up if you want it. This game story is that a few people are murdered and the great Sherlock Holmes must solve the case. Now being a Sherlock holmes game this does have great script writing which i did enjoy but some game elements did♥♥♥♥♥♥me off. There are stealh sections which are abysmal and one task for you too make in under time. The game works well all you do is talk to people and solve puzzles which are smart and really do make you think. This game of course has bad graphics but it doesnt matter because the inviroments do look impressive. So overall its a game you should pick up only in a sale i give it a 6/10. The game is in many ways extremely flawed. For most part, the deductions are sensible, too, though all the contrived puzzles people use to lock their saves and whathaveyou certainly push the limits of believability.. I enjoyed this, it was challenging, to say the least. I had to use walkthrough many times, since I just wanted to continue futher. The story was interesting, but some of the quizzes were too hard and annoying to pass.. This was the first Sherlock Holmes game I played years ago which sent me playing and waiting for all others.I played it again now and it was fun to be reminded of a different detective game.In this game you are truely placed in the shoes of a detective where you don't even know all actions of holmes himself. You need to pay attention to everything, every detail, even something that seem trivial.A brilliant way to do a detective game.I wish the somewhat kept this formulae in "The Devil's Daughter" instead of turning to a more acion based game. OK first if your a sherlock holmes fan get it. It's decent. Now if your not, a few warnings. Have a memory? did you notice that one small detail? Are you actually ##$#(*& Sherlock Holmes? No? Then this might not be the game for you. Have you ever been tested when you try to complete a level? No really I'm not kidding you will actually be quizzed to see if your paying attention. I finally muddle through this after taking half a year off due to frustration. Look if you like Sherlock holms the it's an easy buy. If your not it's a easy pass.. I was able to get past the resolution issues and floating characters,etc....was actually enjoying the game....until I got to that sneaking scene for the train yard.It has to be the dumbest, most frustrating thing I've ever played in my gaming career. Whoever decided to put that in the game/designed it needs to GTFO the gaming industry. I can't believe frogwares is still in business with this like this. This is one of the very few trashy games I've played that made me want to hit something.
